Wangan Hoonigan

Passion for driving...... or is it cars? Haha, I fall into both, as I'm sure most did. So what then, 2013's around the corner, what with the Mayans prophesying Armageddon, none of us really had any outrageous ideas to see the New year in, coz well we may not need to..... Not that any of us are phased either way. For me, as long as the company's right, the rest should be. Long story short, A roadtrip into the Karoo was planned where we'd leave Port Elizabeth - destination Cradock - on the 30th, and leave Cradock for Graaf Reneit on the eve of 2013. One night in each town, and make our way home on New Year's Day. It was all about the drive and not the destinations as such, and so we made the trip all about the drive.............

Brekky stop at Nanaga - had to be done, cops were eyeing us out nicely already.... wouldn't you?? - 6 conspicuous cars all running no plates... ha ha ha. Let's just say we savored every last bite of our pies and rolls before heading back to the car park. With a bit of luck, they were out of sight. Still, we were quire prepared for a line of bullshit stories to feed when we did eventually get pulled over - it was bound to happen. Drive was sweet..... not many cars on the road - strange, but of course super cool for us, especially considering the danger we were about to put our selves in... which entailed our fellow photographer slinky dangling out a convertible snapping rolling shots along olifantskop pass. We're quite fond of him, so we tried to get this done as quickly and safely as possible, all while insisting he get 'the money shots'...... Well, here's a depiction of his commitment on the job.............

It's not often you get a have a cool trip like that and have the opportunity to relive it through quality High def pics such as these... so yeah, thanks again 'my china' :P So many quaint little stops along the way, which literally pop outta nowhere..... So much so that we're almost rear ending each other when they do... First stop was in Middleton.

Next stop........... Daggaboer or some shit. Sounded interesting, we may have been there for a whole ten minutes before we left... but hey, we're never doing it again, (well stopping at a farm stall called daggaboer) so when in Rome........... Quite a few people chilling here and eating, which was strange given it was in the middle of fucking nowhere... But i'm guessing when you smoke the reefer, you keen for some farm style food.... assuming this place has a story behind it's name. 1x very cool and chillaxed cat, jars ad infinutum or jams and preserved goods! And a waitress who though Rob's car was a Ferrari.  Brave guess, we'll give her that.... it is after all - RED. Hahaah :) After these few pics the Wangan Hoonigan departed for the desolate dutch town of Cradock.....

So, what did Cradock have to offer..... A swimming pool? No... An open restaurant? No... Modern Decor? Hahahaahahah, hell no. Luckily that didn't matter. Mozzies? YES.. Heat? Unbearable... But all in all it was cool, coz we weren't there for the luxuries, but more to feel what it was like to just sit around, chill and talk crap with mates. Quinsley had his ipad no doubt... so this was the only techy device that reminded us where we're from. Haha. After walking the less than charming streets of cradock, we resorted to KFC for dinner. The food was welcomed... the flies and dancing homeless kids... not so much. I think we all felt quite relaxed, some more than others, coz there was a lot of sleeping that happened on this trip......

In the morning we had to wait for Christina to finish getting ready before we could leave... Nevermind the fact that we were hungry, we were also super keen to hit the road again, we'd seen enough of Cradock, it was New Years Eve, and we wanted to get our race faces, party faces, and braai faces on. :) We stopped at Wimpy, parked over the road, slinky took some sick shots of the car line up, which I'm still convinced Cradock has never seen the likes of ever.... pretty convinced. It seemed only fitting that the guy who made us wait go get food, inevitably was the one waiting for his food last. Who would have thought yoghurt and fruit took longer to prepare than 8 fry ups?? Anyway, it was as reliable as Wimpy food usually is........ and then we had to wait for Christina to swipe his card. FFS..... hahaha, Wimpy vibes, car vibes, destination - Graaf Reneit! But not before some cool owl house vibes.................. or creepy??

So I've been to the Owl house before a long time ago, So had Quinsley, but for the others I think it was a virgin experience. R40 to get in  - not exactly a snip to walk around some dead woman's old house... But hey, when in Nieu BethesnaDAH, hahahha, so we did as the NB's did and looked at creepy statues, loads of broken glass, took some pics and headed to the Sneeuberg Brewery and Deli.... Wow! Awesome.......... Honey Ale was insisted on and a fine dining cheese board was exactly what the Dr ordered :)

Time to get to Graafies, time to braai and time to close off 2012.......... We'd all had so much fun up to this point, it was just a matter of carrying it through until 12 with hopefully still excited and awake faces. Hahaha.
Well these were some of the faces that we were exposed to until 12'clock....

This is my face:

Awesome braai...... chilled and managed to make it to 12pm, hahaha And toasted with teas and coffees........ :) Very nice accommodation, and it was a perfect evening to close off the trip. Next morning we were going to get up early and hit the Valley of Desolation. Also had been there very long ago. It was super misty in the morning and so we managed to get some really cool pics. We all stood like a bunch of dorks and took a photo in front of an extremely high fall. Quinsley had brown pants! Hahaha :P Very cool trip all in all the rest of the pics tell the story. And it was time to head home. It felt like it was time to as well...... but all in all had such a cool time. Never done that before and it seemed to be something everyone had on their bucket list. Roadtrippin' is definitely on the list of 'DO MORE OF THIS' We stopped for lunch just outside Jansenville for some Kudu burgers. Massive motherfuckers..... De'lish though.. and drove home............... Thanks f=to everyone who made it what it was. Cool pics, cool people, cool vibes.... I look forward to the next one and where and what that will hold. :)
