The good old days

Back when the only concerns you had were to kill king cooper in mario, your wallet never had coins - only notes - down to the R2, your favourite game was a handheld donkey kong, where the definition of excitement was going to pick up your developed prints from the photo's you took at the weekend and seeing them for the first time, where your phone was just a phone to make calls and recording any music you wanted was at the push of a button to tape to your cassettes.....

Cynicism.. I don't know?

Can everyone just stop being so fake all the time? If we don't ever see each other, don't share the same things in common, don't ever even talk to each other. Then why? Why on earth would u feel the need to 1) come out of the woodworks 2) come out and want to hang out with me all of a sudden - regardless of where I am and what I do and like these days 3) come out of nowhere wanting to hang out with me and using your opening line to make this 'first form of communication' by making me feel like I've become to good for u to contact u all this time. Sorry what? I could say the same about you then surely? Except I'm not that ignorant, I understand exactly why it is that we don't see or talk to each other anymore that much. It's called life. But I won't get into what that means now. So now you're pretending that all this time our friendship was this incredible one which sadly has not been nurtured, and that we should do something now because 'what the hell happened? And where have u been?' I mean really.... Do some people just not get that as life goes on.... People come and go too? Do you honestly believe that daily I should be making time for every single person I've come to have some form of friendship with in my life? Is that even possible? Maybe in high school days when nothing else mattered and time was on our side... But sadly and not so much for other reasons, those days are long gone. Long story short.... Don't be fake and pretend..... Rather just tell me straight up why u are contacting me and what it is u want... Ill respect you more.... We may even become friends based on that. Imagine! Seriously though, rather sugar coat things to people who might buy it.. Be real with those who don't. I don't.

Ultra-odd...

If it's not bad enough that people feel the need to post pictures of their very own ultrasound on facebook, (which subjects me to visual nausea), family members of the 'mother-to-be' have now taken on this trend. There's always the initial 'Oh my God, so and so is pregnant?????????' But then the very comforting affirmation of the fact that the tagline reads 'my soon to be nephew' lets me breathe out a sigh of relief. Once my breathing is regulated the realisation kicks in that this person is nuts. Not only am I having to stare at an unborn baby on my screen whilst taking a bite of my long awaited sandwich (not ideal), I'm staring at an unborn baby of someone I don't even know! I mean, are you joking with me? Seriously people, those ultrasound pictures are not something other people want to see. Maybe I'm alone in this, I don't know. It's already funny enough that people are able to refer to 2 days of wrinkly flesh as 'adorable' when it's someone elses, but to now expect responses of 'oooh' and 'aaah' at a picture of what appears to be black and white noise with the slight possibility of making out what the head might be. Coz all those people who say you 'can see the nose, and the ear?' WTF? Do have superior vision goggles on something? You can't see shit. Anyway, that should be the Dr's and the mother-to-be's problem to figure out. Long story short.. enough with the ultrasounds people.. it's. just. plain. strange.

Woe

Feeling inundated with all the emotion i’ve come to handle
Wish i could swim out of it to a place where gone is the pain and serenity reigns
The comfort of madness is bad, the fantasy smile shouldn’t be had...
And in the end it all equates to something rather sad.

Madiba's charity mission

It's Mandela's birthday today and as patriotic citizens and those in favour of how he brought our (previously unfair) nation to a democratic one, we are meant to honour him by giving 67 minutes of our time to doing something that we deem to be 'charitable'. I feel that my contribution to society today at being charitable will involve the following forms of 'giving back':

* I won't cancel my contract with my broker today as I had planned on - now that I finally have my car - due to the worst service I have received to date, ever, with regards to processing a claim today - I will refrain from doing that today.
* I will be patient with bad drivers and excuse their horrific driving skills, by waiting, smiling, and NOT hooting and swearing (hopefully my life won't be at risk on the road in this lenience)
* I'll be polite to the hobo's who beg at my window, ie. as opposed to waiting for him to get to my window and as he gets there, I drive forward - I will wait and pretend to look for money at which point I will then, not give him any money.
* When I am in a debate where the argument involves me being wrong when I in fact know I'm right. I will let the party I'm having this particular argument with - believe that they are right. Just today. Never again.
* When I order my take away and you get my order wrong (as you always do) - I won't ask to speak to your manager again, I'll just say 'it happens' - that could be tough, as it doesn't just happen every time, and now I'll be needing to pretend that.
* I'll not drive my car on the road for 67 minutes so as not to contribute to air pollution in that time. Though I'm sure on most days I do this - seems I'm quite charitable to the ozone layer this regard. Hmm, nice.
* I'll buy a bag of naartijies from the naartijie lady at the robot that seems to think I need a bag of 20 every day. Even after i bought the one day, she tried to sell me the following day. Odd. Anyway I'll buy today. This couples with the reason that I ate my last one last night, and that 67 minutes aside - I actually need.

I feel that by the end of today, having exercised such pleasant selflessness I might wake up tomorrow a happier person. (I also think it might just be coz I'll be driving my new car) haha. But that's just between you and me.

Happy Birthday Madiba.....!!!! And may South Africa not go to a giant ball of chaotic sh*t when you eventually - on a very sad day - leave this earth!

Raw Fish

The best sushi known to man is situated in a modest little Chinese restaurant in a small town where nobody lives. When I say nobody, what I really mean to say is, nobody with heaps and bounds of ambition – no offence to those I know who grew up there – but then again you left, so I’m assuming you have ambition and are not in any way offended by this remark. I am an avid sushi lover, fiend if you will. As far as I have travelled around South Africa with work and leisure, I have always made a conscious effort to test the sushi joints in other towns. It is all part of the great search for the freshest salmon, the perfectly proportioned rice and superior quality of the sushi experience as a whole. I have tasted sushi at seafood restaurants, Chinese restaurants, little ‘hole-in-wall’ Japanese take-away spots, but nothing can touch Hong Zua. Granted the place is a little odd looking from the outside, and none of the staff can speak a word of English barring perhaps ‘anything to drink’ and ‘ready to order?’, but it’s not like they’re going to misunderstand you by asking you ‘and how would you like that done mam?’ There aren’t many words to explain what happens in my mouth when I taste the perfect salmon rose, but it sounds a little like ‘mmmmmmmmm....’ So should anything ever lead you to this town in question, whether it be for work, or...well, WORK, then scribble a night at Zong hua in your diary – you won’t regret it.

Word of the month: Incompetence

So, so very tired of waiting.... I am even more tired of the reason I'm tired of waiting.. Does that make sense? Well to me it does, allow me to elaborate. I had a car accident over a month ago which was declared a write off. (I'm ok, car isn't.. clearly. And I was happy with this outcome.. on both parts, yes) I still do not have a new car. Have I found one yet - yes. Basically all the incompetent people in the 'paperwork world' at namely: my broker, my insurance company, and vehicle finance company, have kept up with their unsolicited reputation by delivering shitty service. Shocked? Not really. Annoyed? Always. So it would seem that for a while now I have been talking to machine operators ad nauseum - which actually is another gripe all together... I have been verifying information to prove that it is in fact me making the request for all this paperwork more times than I believe I should ever need to in my life! So, by now you can somewhat understand my frustration. People send through paperwork and sit back and wait. The people who receive the incorrect paperwork are too goddamn busy to pick up the phone and tell them its incorrect, but rely on the fact that someone will eventually call and say 'what is the status on this claim, as my client is just about ready to kill me' and then they receive the wonderful news that the information they sent through was in fact not what they had asked for. Heaven help us.. So this happened a few times.. over a few days. I have now (I am assuming to believe) done everything and had everything sent correctly and am just waiting for the payout. All I want to do is go and pick up my new car. Why is it so difficult to expect the people you pay to actually do their jobs! How inconsiderate of me.. Here's hoping I have by Friday, otherwise I'm immobile. So, so over it...

Why?

Why do you feel the need to stare at me for 5 minutes before leaving the 4 way stop that you arrived at first?
Why when you roll up at the 4 way stop (clearly first), and then only I do, do you feel the need to tell me I can go? Why don't you just go, seeing as how......um....... that's how it works? I promise not to be angry that you did the right thing....
Why do people just drive through without stopping at a set of robots that aren't working, when no cars are coming, if they're meant to treat it as a 4 way stop? Do you just drive through stop streets when no one's coming? I mean..?
Why would verification codes online be virtually legible for the average human to read, when the point of them it to differentiate between an automated machine reading it and a human reading it? If I can't even make it out, then who have these codes been designed for to understand.. weird. seriously. It need not be that complicated.
Why is it that no matter how you look at it, it's always nauseating to watch old people eat ice-cream from a cone. Wow, it's just disturbing, it needs to stop. Or at least eat them at home. Just saying.. I don't wanna see that whilst walking in a shopping centre.
Why do people think it's ok to forward messages to other people at midnight in the middle of the week? Do you not sleep? Or do you not care that I sleep? Seriously, you think I might read it and write back and we'll have a little midnight email sharing conversation? Take a sleeping pill, let's all get some sleep.

'Chilled'

I found myself in the kitchen last night doing something I have not done in a while and love to do, cooking! I made a hot tasty meal – tomato chilli pasta (in case you were curious) with the Ultimix blasting on the 91 in the background. It’s funny how you forget to keep up with doing things you love when you have a distracted mind. I have not taken a second (in God knows when) to really think about what I’d like to eat, opened my cupboard, taken out all the spices and sauces and actually cooked up something de’lish just for the love of it! Tonight I ran, like power, which I didn’t expect – therefore felt good... I need to carbo-load somewhat this week – don’t laugh, it’s going to be my one saving grace! – So I decided to make food J Coz I sure as hell aint stepping outside, its way too cold, way too wet and well... I have no reason to. Next victory moment was when I discovered that my PS3 is working again. Electronics – its a love/hate relationship. But nevertheless it was working now which meant I could go to my next favourite place (after the kitchen) the couch! There really isn’t much one can do when the weather is like it is and I have forgotten what it feels like to not be exhausted, run down, and not having anything to do all in one evening, so the familiar feeling of ‘chill’ time doing the things I enjoy most was a really cool and welcomed feeling. Almost time for the Knysna race and I am nervously counting down the days. Gonna be an awesome weekend regardless, just coz when you do a race that’s quite a cool ‘deal’ and ‘vibe’, it’s a feel good thing. Just wish I had my friends there too.. Oh and no blog talk on my car yet, coz when I do eventually get it... sigh... um.. then, and only then will I have looooooads of pics and things to say about it. Til then the getz getz me around and there’s nothing to talk about there...so yeah.. still waiting :/

"Quote Unquote"

I don't need a certain number of friends... just a number of friends I can be certain of...

Failing at something you love to do feels much better than succeeding at something you care nothing about...

There is no passion in playing small, in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living...

Beliefs are the roads we take to reach our dreams, believe you can do something and believe that you can't - and you'll be right every time...

If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse...

You'll never leave where you are until you decide where you'd rather be...

Blogger's Block

Well today and at intermittent times. I guess it happens? So the only thing I can write about when my mind is having a bad day is music. So considering I don't have much to say, I do want to say though that I hate the Beyonce song that plays on the radio - 'Who runs the world' It makes me want to break things. I also want to say that Ellie Goulding has an incredible voice and her songs are incredible. Her acoustic stuff makes me want to lose myself... in a good way. Adele makes me smile and cry -I lose myself in her music too. I believe that if an artist's music can take you out of your own world and place you in a different place, then their music is doing what it's intended to do. Damien Rice is melancholy but I have forever loved their music... I guess in a way I carry a melancholy emotion always regardless of how things are. So where some people makes fake actions at wrist-slashing when they here it, I hear something quite beautifully composed that I appreciate and love listening to. Jack Johnson's music is so chilled and only people who understand his music will realise that its actually uplifting. Anyway... that's all I have to talk about today.......... Happy ears = happy heart...
